IELTS writing task 1- topic 3 answer & analysis

In this post, we will try to answer another question that appeared in one of the IELTS exams previously. So here is the question:

IELTS WRITING TOPIC TASK 1

Write a letter to your neighbor

  1. Describe the problem
  2. Say how long it has been a problem
  3. Explain what action you want the neighbor to take

If this is your first time reading my blog post then I would recommend reading my initial article about dealing with IELTS writing task 1.

How to improve your IELTS writing skills to get band 9 score

So let’s do the Analysis part:

It is always ideal to read the question couple of times and understand the overall aspect of the question and focus on the points that the examiner has asked us to address. It is very simple and based on the identified key points we have to frame our answer.

Firstly, the examiner wants us to write a letter to our neighbor.

Considering our neighbor is a known person we can write a personal or an informal letter.  Also, the flipside to this is the neighbor can be a stranger as well, in this case, the letter will be a formal letter.

So in this particular scenario, let’s write a formal letter.

(I believe you have already looked into the above link where I had clearly mentioned the types of letters that are available.) If you didn’t then you can access here

Reading the question a few times,  I found the keywords to be:

  1. Discuss the problem
  2. Discuss the time period ( how long it has been a problem)
  3. What you are expecting your neighbor to do

So here is the response to the question:

Dear Mr. John,

I am writing this letter to let you know about a problem that has been causing a lot of inconvenience and disturbance to my family, especially the newborn baby.

I ‘m really enlighted to see that you are really close to your pets and I see how much you care for them. I really appreciate for your kindness. Lately, your pet dog has been creating a mess in our backyard and spoiling the entire laundry unit and the washed clothes of our baby.

We have been facing this problem for about a few months now and I have never brought to your attention. I feel that it is high time that you look into this situation as this is causing us a lot of nuisance.

I would request you to at least have your pet dog tied to a spot where it cannot enter into our backyard. Also, it would be great to have a teether for your dog so that it can chew it from time to time and satisfy his jaw irritations.

I hope you will look into this matter personally. Thank you for your co-operation on this.

Your Sincerely,

Krishna
