The things you should do before your test are:

Improve your general listening skill

The main aim of ILETS is to check your listening skill. You should not go for a practice test as it is not enough. As they will help you to know about the questions which are asked before and then you will not take much interest to study more. It will not improve your listening skill. But you should try to listen to various listening materials like TV-programs, radio etc.

Polish your topic vocabulary

Section 3 in the test is always about education. Students should learn all type of vocabulary which is taught to you in university. By doing this you can understand this section in a better way.

Things you should do at the time of the test

Word type

In this, you should skip over the question and then decide what should be there in the gap. Verb, noun, adverb or adjective and for this you can write its first word like ‘N’ for noun and ‘V’ for the verb and so on. This will save your time and you will be able to give more time in other questions.

Use all capitals

If you have messy handwriting or aren’t sure which words you need to capitalize, it might be safer to write your answers in all capitals. For one, words written in all capitals are usually neater and easier to read. Also, you don’t have to worry about losing marks for not capitalizing a word that needs to be capitalized.

Don’t lose attention

This is a very important parameter as many students do mistake in this. If you are listening then all your concentration should be at the speaker. But by chance, if you miss some words they don’t focus on that what’s gone but you should listen to the next question properly. Otherwise, you will lose the whole test like this thinking about the previous words.

30 minutes is a long time to actively listen for answers. If you lose focus, you will miss answers. Don’t let that happen to you. Practice full tests at home to build up your ability to concentrate.

Don’t write answer too quickly

Many students get into excitement if they know the answer and hence they make mistake while writing. So you should not write your answer quickly without focusing on it. For example, he has spoken Loren-Hanson and you will write Loren-Hamson. This will cut down the marks.

Check for a silly mistake

As you listen, write your answers in your test booklet and then transfer them at the end of the listening test. Be sure to check that you have transferred your answers correctly and remember to check your spelling and grammar. Also, be sure to complete your answer sheet.

Transfer answers accurately

After listening test, you will get 10 minutes to fill out your answers on the sheet. Make sure you put the right answer in the right box. Otherwise, the answer will be considered wrong. Check your spelling when you transfer your answers to the answer sheet. This is the time to check and make sure everything is correct.

Don’t leave any blank answers

Read the question again to make a good guess if some question is confusing. Even if you don’t know the answer, make a guess. Always write something in the box on your answer sheet. Who knows, maybe you guess right.
